Good web page design is crucial in order to be sure that your audience sees your company in a positive way. You may have a good page with great resources and content but if you fail to the basic aspect like the design, you may not succeed online. Your web site needs to be clean, attractive, you need to pay attention to the design besides the content.
A few years ago, web page design was considered good because you had no more than a few nice pictures in you page, a nice text, and that was good enough. No thought at all was given to the general feeling you would get from it, now the audience is much more demanding and sophisticated. In the old days it was much more about being nice and trendy by the fact of having a web site, that was good enough!
Today, things are very different. We have gone through a lot of different phases to be where we are now, bandwidth limitations are no longer a problem, so that multimedia content is all over. Having a great web design in your page has become a good way for companies to level the competition and compete effectively with larger rivals. I have developed better and better sites over the time, my customers continually give me positive feedback about the importance of this part of the web development, the good use of the web design.
People have enough stress in life, and they don’t need their web experience to be one more of them. When you go to a page that look busy you don’t stay there, pressured people are seeking a nice experience and that is what your design has to try to be. Eliminate the unnecessary extras, too many effects, flashy gimmicks, and things like that. Eliminate the idea of doing everything you want if you want to give a nice experience to the user.
The Google Example
I can say less is more, users appreciate simplicity of a clean design. Google’s web design is a good example. A very nice homepage is part of its success, Yahoo has been following the Google style and MSN will have to. Google has so much white space, and this is a proof of that, give the final user what he needs, not what you need, again remember that less is more.
Keep your site clean easy and simple, intuitive navigation. I see it all the time web sites that have nice homepages, and then change the design on the inside pages. when you get something like this you struggle to progress through the web site, and you fill the relief of leaving such pages.
What Is Besides That?
So we have established that a good web site has to be clean, very simple, and with an easy navigation, but how can we make it beautiful? Ask yourself what can create that emotional response when people navigate through your site?
Creating hundreds of web sites for my customers, I have realized that the good use of quality images separates a good site from a normal one. The key is as I said the use of the right images, and not try to overdo it. A single large, good quality photograph that show your product or represent a service can work great.
If you have to use more images, do it right, usually panning across the pictures very slowly it is a good effect. A technique called “depth-of-field”, in this case the foreground of the image is shown sharp, but the background is blurred, this is good way to really draws attention to the main subject.
These are just the guidelines for web design, the essential advice to create nice web sites. Great web design includes clean look that eliminates too much information. An intuitive navigation system it is helpful to get around easily. Finally, you have to use great, high-impact pictures to give an emotional response. Content is not all, in a web page, design is an important part of the game.
