Digging into the basics of the Seo Advice, 5 Common Errors I have seen way too often, are that the unexperienced webmasters and Internet Marketing Consultants, to make their pages more enticing, fall into the trap of using coding and techniques that end up hurting the overall performance and optimization of their web site. Let’s see and analyze these anti SEO techniques.
!
Why Frames Confuse Spiders
A lot of people are still using frames in their websites, but are they aware that this technique is not recognized by search engine spiders? So if your website has been using frames, then chances are it is losing out on a lot in terms of being spidered the right way on search engines.
Using frames can actually create major problems in you page when it comes to being indexed by the search engines. The FRAMESET tag can dramatically change the overall structure of an HTML document.
Hence for search engine spiders and robots who are seeking out your website, they will not be able to recognize this tag. Many browsers too do not recognize frames and cannot sift through to the body of the text on the web page.
This way if you happen to view the page through such a web browser, you might end up looking at a blank page! If you really need to use frames on your site you can still avoid this inconvenience giving the search engines an alternate version of the page having a NOFRAMES version of the page.
This tag will not affect the appearance of the page on search engines, but it will keep you out of truble with popular search engines, any ways you want to stay away from frames and you will make your life easier.
Using Flash
Flash is great for enhancing user interactivity, getting more engaging content onto your website and enhancing the user experience online. However when it comes to search engines, Flash can be a real problem.
It’s because search engine spiders of today cannot recognize Flash, and they never will, thus making web pages unrecognizable on search engine results. You might have a very attractive web page, with lots of Flash effects, but it may not even exist as far as search engine results are concerned.
In order to avoid getting completely ignored by search engine spiders, if you don’t want to give up the flash effects, make sure to combine Flash along with an alternative version of your site in plain html or the modern version of it: the xhtml.
Javascript Navigation
If you have links inside the JavaScript coding, then for sure these links will not be recognized by search engine robots. Considering the tremendous amount of importance that links have in terms of search engine rankings, you need to make sure that along with such links you also include regular HTML links so these search engine spiders can recognize and follow them.
Dynamic Links
If you have a Content Management System also known as CMS, that uses query strings or session ids in their URLs, then chances are your page is not going to be spidered by crawlers. It’s because popular search engines like Google are no longer indexing such web pages. So if the content on your web pages is dynamically driven but not optimized for engines, chances are Google is going to ignore it.
These pages are no longer indexed as they use to pose threats in the form of “spider traps” and could make recognition difficult for search engine robots. As a workaround strategy you can use strategies like “mod rewrites” to avoid such problems from cropping up.
Entry Splash Pages
Many websites use splash pages as a means of getting visitors to enter their site. While some of them have a lot of visually appealing content, these pages fail to give to the home page the strength that it deserves.
Therefore in spite of such appealing imagery, this way of structuring your site, has a negative impact in the overall ranking of the site. You might have noticed that once the animation or flash presentation gets completed the page automatically redirects to a page that is not the home page but has all the information that the home page should have on it.
The reason splash pages fail to give your site good rankings, is because in such way you put a no relevant page in the most important place of a site, the home page.
Splash pages only have usually a skip intro option for the user. Also since a splash page only links to the page that has the information that belongs to the real home page of the site, but it is not, such a structure confuses search engine spiders because where your site deserves importance you are not giving it.
