Google Adsense: a Blessing Or a Curse?
Google has been advertising its Google Adsense as a program to make money online in a big way the last couple of years, and since then the program has seen many takers. Some have struck gold in the process, while others are still struggling to earn a decent income. Here we explore why Adsense works for some, while for others it can be a disaster.
The Way It Works
Google Adsense is the best program to monetize Internet traffic, where Google acts as an intermediate party between the advertiser and the traffic provider. The advertiser opens an account with the program Google AdWords and sends Google a list of ads he wants displayed when certain keywords are shown in the search engine and in the content network, but what is the content network? Well, it is the network of the publishers in the Google AdSense program.
Google sends regularly the spiders to index the AdSense publisher’ sites, and based on the content they have, sends relevant ads to be displayed in the publisher web site, so the ads are targeted to the topic of the web page, and the ads are related to the publisher site.
All that, is made possible with a piece of code, which needs to be embedded into the publisher’ site. This seems like a win-win situation for the publisher, Google and the advertiser. The advertiser pays Google every time there is a click. A certain commission (50 to 80 %) gets deducted by Google, after which the remaining funds get directed to the publisher account.
Content Related Sites
What is a content site? A content site is a web page that has articles in his page about specific topics and showing ads makes some money. For such web sites Google’s Adsense has been a virtual Godsend. Prior to the Adsense program such sites were not to common to see for the fact that there was no point to build an informative site since there was no way to monetize the traffic. They did not have any products or services to sell – just content, and by content I mean articles about something, and as you may say “no money no glory!”.
With the Adsense program now a content site no longer need to worry about revenue streams. They just need to create content and then supplement it with Adsense. The rest is taken care of by Google and the site starts earning money. Content related sites have only to worry about finding the topics where the clicks are more expensive to make a decent income through Adsense.
Good Quality Content
In order to make money with Adsense it is necessary to be able to have decent amount of Internet traffic or you have to buy traffic and do what is called arbitrage, buying traffic to be sent to a page with AdSense ads, but that is a different story.
The most common business model for AdSense it is to generate free traffic and monetize it and it is better to generate high quality content. That is why the quality of the information on the Internet has also gone up drastically. Now webmasters can just focus on churning out good quality content and Adsense takes care of the rest in terms of revenue and income for the site.
In addition, in terms of the user experience too, good quality content plays a role in ensuring superior online experience. Also with very little inputs from the webmaster the site can continue to generate income for years to come.
One Account For All Of Your Sites
The good thing about Adsense is the fact that one account can be used on multiple sites as well. So if you are the Webmaster you just need to create multiple sites and you can continue to use Adsense to generate revenues for each of those sites. There is no need for you to sign up for a new Adsense account with Google each time you build a new site.
Play By The Rules Or Your Account Can Be Closed
One of the main concerns of people that decide to publish with Adsense is that Google exercises complete control on when it chooses to shut down an account. There is always a reazon if they shut down an account and in my opinion honesty is the best way to go with AdSense and Google in general.
Many webmasters have lost a lot of income in the process. If you are currently signed in with Google Adsense it is important you follow strictly the TOS, to avoid any surprise and also have a backup plan just in case…
